Wait Time

This clip suggests that teachers need to develop a “wait time” between asking a question and getting students to respond to it.

The “improving teaching” blog suggests before you do anything, count to 3.

I will DEFINITELY be trying to incorporate this in to my teaching. Too often I get nervous and try to fill in the silence with my own voice. And it just comes across (I think) as babble. This article suggests that with a 3 second wait time, it will improve student responses, have more of an impact because students are waiting what you have to say next. This facilitates a more thoughtful discussion.
